Garcia joins Moyer on disabled list

SEATTLE -- Seattle Mariners right-hander Freddy Garcia, a 17-game winner as a rookie, has a hairline fracture in his right tibia and will miss four to six weeks.

Garcia and outfielder John Mabry, two of four Seattle Mariners injured in Friday night's victory over Kansas City, were placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday.

Garcia, 23, left the game with what was initially diagnosed as bursitis in his right knee after trying to cover first base on an infield single in the third inning. He allowed one run in the 10-2 triumph.

The Mariners are already without their No. 1 starter Jamie Moyer, who went on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained muscle in the back of his left shoulder.

"On top of Moyer, you lose Garcia, the top two pitchers in your rotation," Piniella said. "We're fortunate we have some depth."

Mabry is out because of a severe groin pull in his right leg that he suffered while attempting to field a ball in the third.

The Mariners recalled right-hander Kevin Hodges from Triple-A Tacoma to take Garcia's place on the roster. Piniella said Hodges would start out in Seattle's bullpen.

After Friday night's game, the Mariners brought up utility infielder Carlos Hernandez from Tacoma to take Mabry's place on the roster.
