  RECAP | BOX SCORE

CHICAGO (AP) _ Jean-Yves Leroux scored from just inside the blue line with 9:42 remaining to snap a 2-2 tie as the Chicago Blackhawks defeated Anaheim 5-2 Wednesday night, pushing the Mighty Ducks closer to playoff elimination.

Leroux fooled goaltender Guy Hebert just 38 seconds after Anaheim's Paul Kariya tied the game at 2.

Bob Probert added a goal on a breakaway with 3:23 left. Tony Amonte scored into an empty net with 1:06 remaining.

With two games remaining, Anaheim trails eighth-place San Jose by three points and seventh-place Edmonton by four in the Western Conference.

The Sharks, skating at home Wednesday against Dallas, needed two points to assure finishing ahead of the Ducks. The Oilers, at home to Colorado, needed one point to assure finishing ahead of Anaheim.

Steve Sullivan and Kevin Dean also scored for the Blackhawks, who got 27 saves from Jocelyn Thibault.

Ruslan Salei also connected for Anaheim.

Sullivan opened the scoring in the first period when he one-timed his 20th goal past Hebert from the left circle.

Dean made it 2-0 in the second on a soft, screened shot from the blue line that floated past Hebert's stick side.

However, Salei replied 54 seconds later. Set up by Teemu Selanne, Salei ripped a high shot past Thibault from the left circle.

Kariya tied it at 9:40 of the third when he raced past Dean, cut in alone on Thibault and lifted in a backhander.

Leroux, who has just three goals, netted the game-winner on wrist shot that sailed over Hebert's glove.

Probert, who has only four goals, connected on his breakaway with 3:23 left. Amonte's 42nd goal completed the scoring.
