SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) -- Peter Skudra turned in his best performance of the season for the Pittsburgh Penguins. It was a good thing because the San Jose Sharks kept the pressure on him most of the night.

Skudra rejected a flurry of shots in the final minutes of regulation and Jaromir Jagr kept his scoring streak alive to help preserve the Penguins' 1-1 tie with the Sharks on Saturday night.

Skudra stopped 12 shots in the third period and 30 overall as the Penguins remained winless (0-3-2) in their last five games.

"I saw the puck all night," said Skudra, who stopped 28 shots in a 5-2 win over the New York Rangers on Oct. 14. "I never had five guys in front of me."

Steve Shields stopped 27 of 28 shots and remained the league leader in save percentage (.941) and wins (7) as the Sharks earned a point for the second straight game following a three-game losing streak.

San Jose took a 1-0 lead with 12:23 left in the first period. Jeff Friesen won the puck off the boards, and Owen Nolan flicked it over to Vincent Damphousse, who attacked the net and backhanded the puck inside the far post past Skudra.

Damphousse has scored 27 points in his last 26 games, dating back to last season, with the Sharks.

"I just tried to get a quick shot to the far side," said Damphousse. "There were a lot of chances on both sides, but the goaltending was solid."

The Penguins tied it five minutes into the second period with a power- play goal. On a two-man advantage, Jagr took a shot, which deflected off the pads of Shields, then off the stick of right wing Alexei Kovalev. Robert Lang then slapped the puck over Shields, who was sprawled on the ice.

"That was a scramble," Damphousse said. "Steve had the puck, but it got loose. We tried to get back there, but they got there before we did."

After the Penguins tied it, the Sharks kept attacking but were constantly turned away by Skudra.

"(Skudra) played great," Jagr said. "They played better than us. They were in our zone most of the game."

Jagr, who got an assist on the play, has a point in all nine Penguins games this season, and is the only NHL player to have a point in all his team's games this year. Jagr did, however, have his seven-game goal streak snapped.

"He's the best in the world," said Pittsburgh coach Kevin Constantine. "He's averaging almost two points a game. He can play anywhere he wants and he can lead any team."

San Jose is 1-6-2 in career home games against the Penguins.

Pittsburgh, playing its third game in four nights, went 0-1-2 in California.
