BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Ottawa's Ron Tugnutt and Buffalo's Martin Biron teamed up for a rare scoreless tie.

Tugnutt made 30 saves and Biron stopped 23 shots in the 162nd
0-0 tie in NHL history Wednesday night.
"My first professional shutout in Rochester was a scoreless
tie," said Biron, who has two shutouts in his last seven starts.
"It's always tough. One way, you've got a shutout and you've got a
point. The way Tugnutt played, he deserved the point too."
"I would take a couple of goals against to get the win," said
Tugnutt, who played in his first game after missing two contests
with a strained knee.
"This was my first (0-0 tie)," said Tugnutt, who notched his
14th career shutout and third of the season. "I was involved in a
0-0 tie in the (1997) playoffs against Buffalo. But you play to an
end there."
Tugnutt has blanked Buffalo in both of the teams' games this
season. Ottawa defeated Buffalo 4-0 Oct. 23.
"It's good to come into a game feeling good about your
opponent, feeling like you've had success against them," said
Tugnutt. "We match up pretty evenly and it makes our games pretty
tight checking."
With the tie, the fifth in the last seven meetings between the
clubs, Buffalo extended its winless streak to five games (0-3-2).
"We're playing well enough to win hockey games," said Sabres
captain Michael Peca. "It's a case where we've got to get the
power play a goal and find a way to generate some offense."
Buffalo's power-play was 0-for-3 and has scored just one power
play goal in its last seven games.
"It was like a playoff performance and we deserved better,"
said Sabres coach Lindy Ruff. "When you are struggling, you don't
get a lot of bounces but we worked hard to get the chances we
got."
"The emphasis is on defense," said Senators coach Jacques
Martin. "Right now both teams are searching for offense."
In overtime, Buffalo outshot Ottawa 4-1, with Miroslav Satan
bouncing a shot off the post with about 15 seconds to go.
The Sabres also outshot Ottawa 10-5 in the third period, with
its best chance coming with about 2½ minutes to go. From beside the
net, Satan bounced the puck off the goal post and Tugnutt was on
his back trying to cover the puck. Michal Grosek slapped at the
rebound only to have the sprawled goalie make the stop.
Prior to that, the Sabres' best chances came in the second
period. Buffalo's Curtis Brown had a goal disallowed 2:20 into the
frame, as officials ruled he batted the puck into the net with a high stick.
